Electronic air cleaners, also sometimes known as ionizers or air purifiers, use electrically-charged filters to reduce the amount of airborne contaminants flowing through your home’s HVAC system. The electronic air cleaner traps large particles of contaminants (such as dust and dander) using a prefilter, while smaller particles like moulds and bacteria are attracted to and trapped by the electrically-charged filters, thus keeping your home’s air as clean as possible. Keeping these contaminants out of your home’s air can help fight against allergies, asthma, and other respiratory illnesses.

Most electronic air cleaners feature reusable filters that can be removed for washing every few months as part of the system’s simple regular maintenance. Look for electronic air cleaners with a MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value) rating of at least 10, where higher ratings indicate more effective filtration capabilities.
